ACTEX eLearning Presents: ACTEX eLearning Webinar: Actuarial Technical Toolbox: Getting the Most Out of Excel - Moving Data Around

Let’s face it, spreadsheets are one of the largest workhorses in actuarial work and business work in general. Various groups and organizations have developed best practices and guides for using Microsoft Excel, but very few focus directly on the needs of actuaries. This webinar series will focus on the use and functionality of Microsoft Excel in an actuarial setting so you can add more skills to your technical toolbox! Excel 2010 used for examples, but applications work in all versions of Excel.

The first presentation in our Actuarial Technical Toolbox webinar series, Moving Data Around, explores various methods for pulling data into Excel from external sources, as well as methods for saving data within Excel. In addition to explaining the processes with real-world examples, we will also review best practices for maintaining data fidelity and documentation for your spreadsheets.

The following scenarios will be explained in great detail so you can follow along, and ask questions along the way:

  1. Importing data from Internet sources
  2. Importing and Exporting .txt files
  3. Importing and Exporting Excel VBA data

Who Should Attend?

This webinar presentation is designed for those with an intermediate-level of knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Participants should have some VBA programming knowledge with experience using the VBA editor, writing simple macros, running VBA scripts, and using Excel VBA objects such as Range() and Active Worksheet.

In need of a refresher of Microsoft VBA programming? Consider purchasing a recording of Mary Pat's previous two-part webinar series, Excel VBA for Beginners.

This webinar is open to any practicing actuaries and actuarial students who are looking to improve their Microsoft Excel skills within the actuarial profession.
